Abstract

Authors perfored a retrospective matched-aair stuey for 56 uncemented hip arthroplasty which include same number of hips with porous coated and HA porous coated femoral components using same kind of implant(Zimmer Anatomic?)to identify whether HA coat was efficient to get more favorable clinical results.
Results were as followings:
1) Clinical results of HA group were slightly better than those ofporous group in terms of final functional score and incidence of thigh pain.
2) With regrad to chronologic changes in hip function, hip function of HA coated group was recovered slightly faster until 3 months after operation and maintained with slightly better hip score compare to that of porous coated group.
3)Mean interval between operation and weight bearing without support in HA group, 6,8wks was shorter compared to that in porous coted group, 10.3wks which was significantly different statistically. But other variables were not correlated
with
the time of postoperative weight bearing without support.
4) Overall incidence of radiolucency about femoral component in A-P and lateral radiograph in porous coated group was slightly higher or similar compare to that of HA coated group.
5) Inciednce of bone ingrowth on porous pad, vertical downward migration adn proximal bone resorption were similar in both groups except the incidence of heterotopic ossification which was found 2 cases of HA coated group.
